Drinking Habits

“Drinking Habits" is a traditional, laugh-out-loud farce where accusations, mistaken identities, and romances run wild. Two nuns at The Sisters of Perpetual Sewing have been secretly making wine to keep the convent's doors open, but undercover reporters are hot on their trail. Their presence, combined with the addition of a new nun, spurs paranoia throughout the convent that spies have been sent from Rome to shut them down.

Wine and secrets are inevitably spilled as everyone tries to preserve the convent and reconnect with lost loves.

Performance times are 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m. The Opera House is located at 209 East Main Street, Coggon, Iowa.

Seating is by general admission only. Tickets can be purchased at the door or can be reserved for will call by calling (319) 435-2353 after 6:00 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes prior to show time.
2018-03-08 21:00:00 -06004/20/187:00 p.m.Coggon Opera HouseCoggon -
Red Cedar Chamber Music - HarpStrings

HarpStrings

As the 2016 USA International Harp Competition Gold Medalist, Katherine Siochi has spent the last year performing all over the world - Red Cedar brings her home for this concert program. The program includes the iconic Trio by Henriette Renié as well as a newly commissioned work by Katherine’s brother Jeremiah titled toque de azul. The new work, as the title suggests, is a jazzy three-movement work with movements titled bass, ballad and basso. The work is energetic, fresh and very groovy. It was commissioned in honor of Katherine’s former harp teacher, Pamela Weest-Carrasco. Katherine and Jeremiah are both graduates of the Preucil School of Music in Iowa City, and have collaborated on many new works featuring the harp. Red Cedar’s Artistic Director, Carey Bostian had many opportunities to work with Katherine and Jeremiah during their high school years and can’t wait to share their amazing talent with the Red Cedar audience.

Katherine is currently the principal harpist of the Sarasota Orchestra. She holds both a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in harp performance from The Juilliard School and is only the second American to win the USA International Harp Competition.

Jeremiah studied composition with Stephen Jaffe and Scott Lindroth at Duke University and was the winner of the 2015 USA International Harp composition competition. He works as a software developer during the day and composes in the evenings.

Performances of HarpStrings will culminate in MainStage events at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 at First Presbyterian Church, 310 5th St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA. and 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 22 at the Unitarian Universalist Society, 2355 Oakdale Rd., Coralville, IA. The Philadelphia Story

All seats are general admission. Performance dates are April 20th & 21st and April 26th-28th.

American Sign Language interpreters will be present at the Saturday, April 21st production. Please let the volunteers at the ticket counter know if you need to be seated in the ASL seating area when presenting your ticket.

Synopsis:

"The wealthy and well-established Lord family of Philadelphia is about to welcome the cream of society into their home for the second wedding of Tracy Lord, vibrant daughter of the house, to George Kittredge, a proud up-and-coming self made coal mine manager -- much to the annoyance of little sister Dinah, big brother Sandy, and ex-husband C.K. Dexter Haven, none of whom believe that George is good enough for her. Unfortunately, father Seth’s philandering with a Broadway dancer causes a scandal which an unscrupulous media tycoon threatens to break -- unless he can send a reporter to cover this high society wedding from the inside. Enter Macaulay “Mike” Connor, a writer of quality unwillingly slumming it on the society beat, who holds strong views against the old money-wielding upper class, and his faithful photographer Liz, whose romantic connection is not enough to stop the fascinated dance which ensues when Tracy and Mike meet and spar over class boundaries and champagne-addled declarations. Torn between three men, Tracy must determine whether or not she belongs on a pedestal. Philip Barry’s sparkling comedy The Philadelphia Story is witty, sophisticated romp, a breezy and romantic story which explores family dynamics, class prejudice, and human frailty."

Don't miss this exciting show directed by RHCR's Artistic Director, Kerry Covington.

Seating is limited! Pippi Longstocking

On the outskirts of town stands a ramshackle house... there’s a horse on the porch, a monkey in the kitchen and a freckle faced, red-pigtailed, whirlwind of a girl in mismatched stockings presiding over all! This is the domain of Pippi Longstocking!

Pippi is outrageously unsupervised and proud of it. She has what she needs to get by, and if she doesn’t she’ll make something up that will do the trick. Her father is a pirate captain off sailing the seas. Her mother is an angel watching over her from heaven. And neither Mrs. Prysselius, head of the Child Welfare Board, nor Thunder and Bloom, a couple of ne’erdo- wells who try to abscond with the gold in her pirate treasure chest can get the best of her. Neither can the policemen who try to make her go to school, or the school teacher she meets once she goes. (She decides to give school a try once she learns from her neighbors and new very-best friends, Tommy and Annika, that if you go to school, you get a summer vacation.) In fact, the adults who come in contact with her often are the ones who learn from the encounter. She teaches the burglars in her house a lesson in manners when they use the word, “damn,” (language no well behaved person should use), and she conducts a real-world mathematics lesson at school until even the teacher enjoys the romp.

But it’s not that she’s unteachable. Pippi swallows her fears of not knowing any of the rules of etiquette and goes to a fancy party. She cares so much more than she’s willing to admit, and she learns a hard lesson that even fun can go too far, and sometimes what starts out as play can end up just plain disrespectful. She simply doesn’t fit, and it’s hard to imagine Pippi fitting in anywhere – unless you meet her, and then you can’t imagine life without her.

Sponsored by our friends at Puddle Jumpers & Rain

with season sponsor Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust and media sponsor KDAT
2018-03-22 20:30:00 -05004/20/187:30 p.m.George Washington High SchoolCedar Rapids -
