UPDATE: Daniel Tosh event at the Paramount Theatre sold out in a day

The Paramount Theatre sold out this summer’s Daniel Tosh event Friday afternoon, an Orchestra Iowa employee said. Alexis Kenleigh, Chief Marketing Officer for Orchestra Iowa, the ticketing office for the Paramount Theatre, said it’s never bad to sell out an event. Kenleigh said they have sold about 3300 tickets for the back-to-back Daniel Tosh performance on June 5 at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. She acknowledged that during the Wednesday pre-sale, the Paramount’s Website was having difficulty keeping up with the intense traffic. “There’s always going to be that tipping point. The server can get a little overwhelmed, and people may have to wait a little longer to get their tickets,” Kenleigh said. She said the office had about 12 ticketing lines, equivalent to “12 people working all day to field and address calls.” She said from 10 a.m. Wednesday to 10 p.m. Thursday was the Paramount’s pre-sale, where users had to use a promotion code to purchase tickets. The code being “gloom,” which was sent out to the Paramount’s e-mail subscribers, and tweeted by Daniel Tosh and Comedy Central, Kenleigh said. “Theoretically could have sold out during pre-sale, but we did not,” Kenleigh said. “We had tickets available today and we have released all tickets that we have.” Kenleigh added that LiveNation did not want there to be a limit on the number of tickets sold during the pre-sale event, she could not provide how many tickets were sold during pre-sale, and when they officially went on sale without a promotion code. “It’s never our intention to make anyone go through an unpleasant ticketing purchase experience,” Kenleigh said. Kenleigh said the Paramount didn’t utilize a company like Ticketmaster, or another third party agency, because by having the ticket office in Cedar Rapids, “jobs are being created here, and it remains Cedar Rapids based.” “This really is never an issue with any other shows that we have. We knew it was going to be popular, and we were prepared for the influx in traffic, but systems can only withstand what they can,” Kenleigh said. “This morning at 10 a.m., everything went on sale at the Paramount and it was wonderful, but it just seemed like all of Iowa was trying to buy tickets.”
