Liquid Lounge, a new subterranean night club, opened Oct. 26 in downtown Cedar Rapids. Liquid inhabits the basement level of the historic building at 305 Second Ave. SE that houses White Star Ale House. The recent renovation highlights the space’s brick walls and masonry arches. One room features seating suitable for conversation and another room features a large 16-foot by 25-foot dance floor. Co-owners Kirby Patten and Austin Wilson plan daily happy hours from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in hopes of attracting downtown workers, but the later hours until 2 a.m. will be “more high energy” with DJs and dancing, Patten said. As the name implies, Liquid will have plenty of cocktails. It also will feature eight beers on tap, including a good representation of craft brews. No kitchen is planned because Liquid will be right underneath White Star Ale House, which offers a full menu.
