Each week Hoopla and the Iowa Cultural Corridor Alliance team up to showcase arts and culture events in Eastern Iowa. Below are the hidden gems for this week. Celebrate holidays past by participating in Brucemore’s annual tradition, Holiday Mansion Tours, November 23 through December 30. Visitors will enjoy the seasonal splendor of 13 glowing trees, a dining room set for Christmas dinner, stunning mantel arrangements, the lush garland adornment of the grand staircase, and other seasonal cheer throughout the Mansion. Daytime tours will begin on the hour, Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and every half hour, Sundays, Noon to 3:00 p.m. Admission for daytime tours is $7 per adult, $3 per child, and free to Brucemore members. Evening tours will be offered every 15 minutes from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, December 11, 13, 18, and 20. The last tour will begin at 7:30 p.m. Evening tours will feature live music from the original 1927 Skinner Pipe Organ. Admission for evening tours is $10 per adult, $7 per child, and $5 per Brucemore member. Tickets can be purchased the day of the tour in the Visitor Center. Iowa Theatre Artists Company invites you to A Celtic Christmas! Visit the Amana Colonies during Thanksgiving weekend and enjoy a lilting and lovely concert of Celtic Christmas music performed by the popular local area band, IrishJam. Shows are Saturday, November 24, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 25, at 1:30 p.m. This concert is sure to kick the holidays off perfectly with the gift of music. Please reserve early for this very special event in the warm & intimate theatre space at the Iowa Theatre Artists Company in the heart of Amana. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling 319.622.3222. Get ready for the revenge of the audio/visual club. Legion Arts presents South Korea’s Tacit Group at CSPS Hall Friday, Nov. 23 and Saturday, Nov. 24 at 8:00 p.m. Using laptops as musical instruments, the six-man group is revolutionizing live performance one megabyte at a time. Tacit Group uses real-time projection mapping and computer graphics to create compelling soundscapes and stunning visuals. They represent a new breed of composer with a deep sense of play and a virtuosic command of algorithms. Tacit’s exclusive CSPS engagement is part of the group’s first US tour, with the only other additional stops at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door. (A $5 student rush is also available at the door.) The Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center invites you to a Barn Dance on Saturday, November 24. The Barn Dance is open to all: singles, couples, and the entire family. Even if you do not wish to dance, the old time country music, provided by the best local bands, is worth the price of admission. No experience is necessary; all dances are taught and called by an expert caller. There's no fancy footwork involved; simply walk through a series of movements that you'll soon master with help from the caller and veteran dancers. Fun for all ages and abilities! Beginner lessons are 7:30-8:00 p.m. and the dance is 8:00 – 11:00 p.m. Admission is $5/person at the door. Fast becoming a Thanksgiving Weekend tradition, the Festival of Trees Opening Gala and Winter Ball returns to the Coralville Marriott Hotel and Convention Center this Saturday, November 24, 6:30 – 10:30 p.m. The Festival of Trees is a benefit for the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts, presented by City Circle Acting Company of Coralville and the Coralville Marriott Hotel and Convention Center. More than 30 artistically designed trees and wreaths will be on display and for auction at the opening Gala. Also, special “grab bags” featuring prizes from many local businesses will be offered with both adult and kid-friendly prizes. There will also be a special performance by the Nolte Academy of Dance. A balloon artist and magicians will entertain younger attendees and a special visit from Santa! Enjoy a fabulous selection of heavy hors d’oeuvres and dance the night away with the Rod Pierson Big Band! Tickets are $25 per person or $200 for table of 10.
