Summer isn't necessarily a season associated with screen time. Sometimes, though, it rains. Other times a quiet few hours in the cool, dark theater is a welcome respite from the din of a pool or the sunny ball fields.

When that time comes, you'll be glad you marked your calendar for these family movie series at local theaters.

New this summer is a series at Iowa Ciy's independent theater FilmScene, 118 E. College St.

FilmScene's new Picture Show family and children's series begins with "The Parent Trap" on June 17 at 10 a.m. and June 19 at 4 p.m. and "Frozen" on June 21 at 10 a.m., June 24 at 10 a.m. and June 26 at 4 p.m.
