Wine-Based Cocktail Tasting

For years, wine cocktails got a bad rap, but the history of wine in cocktails is as old as civilization itself. Look beyond wine coolers and try what Benz Beverage Depot and award-winning mixologist Josh O’Connell have to offer. Guests also can try O’Connell’s new, locally-made Rosemary Liqueur.

Farm-To-Table Dinner

Get local with Kirkwood’s Culinary Arts and Beef Science programs as they team up to offer a signature event featuring local fare. The Class Act restaurant is serving up beef grown on campus, and the meal also will include produce from the Chef’s Garden and wine from The Winery at Kirkwood, both within walking distance of the hotel. During the event, learn more about the farm-to-table concept from Executive Chef Clint Goodman. Seatings are at 5 and 7:30 p.m.

Vintner’s Dinner

Try a taste of the South at a “Southern Living” Vintner’s Dinner in Amana. Start with appetizers and a wine tasting at White Cross Cellars before moving on to a four-course Southern feast at Ox Yoke Inn, complete with White Cross wine pairings. The menu features chilled zucchini-potato soup, Southern peach salad with Green Goddess dressing, bourbon-glazed pork chops with baked macaroni and cheese, green peas and sauteed onions and dark chocolate bourbon torte.

HF607 Celebration Pairing Party

Lion Bridge Brewing Company is celebrating HF607, an Iowa bill signed into law this year that allows breweries to legally serve wine. To mark the addition of wines to the Lion Bridge menu, the tap room is hosting a pairing event that doubles as a head-to-head competition between beer and wine. Come help judge which fermented drink is best by trying four food courses designed to pair with wine and beer. Try the food with each drink and then decide which pairing works best. This is a ticketed event.
