Irish District Music & Arts Festival
Saturday, June 17

Honey Island Swamp Band from New Orleans will kick up some Cajun heat as headliners for Saturday’s Irish District Music & Arts Festival in northeast Cedar Rapids. Opening band is Perry & The Pumpers, full of Linn County blues musicians. The Honey Islanders met up in San Francisco, where they all were marooned after Hurricane Katrina. They decided to blend their beat into “Bayou Americana” and kept the band going after returning to their New Orleans roots in 2007. The family-friendly, rain-or-shine festival also features local food and art vendors and a Kid Zone. Chairs are provided in a tented area; coolers are allowed since alcohol will not be sold (no glass). Proceeds support $500 grants to two Cedar Rapids musicians.
