Snoop Dogg: Wellness Retreat
Tuesday, April 25

Multiplatinum, Grammy-nominated hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg is making tracks back to Cedar Rapids, with openers Flatbush Zombies and Berner. Born Calvin Broadus, he’s known for his hit collaborations with Dr. Dre on “Nothin’ But a ‘G’ Thang” and “Dre Day”; “Drop It Like It’s Hot” (Pharrell Williams); “California Gurls” (Katy Perry); and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted” (2Pac). His Top 10 solo tracks include “What’s My Name,” “Gin & Juice” and “Doggfather.” Snoop sprang onto the national scene through Dr. Dre’s 1992 album, “The Chronic,” followed by his own debut album, “Doggystyle,” in 1993. His current collaboration is a cooking show with Martha Stewart — “Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party” — on VH1.

Showcase Chamber
Friday to Sunday, April 21 to 23

Orchestra Iowa string players will usher in the season with “Spring Serenade.” The concert includes Kodaly’s Serenade for Two Violins and Viola, Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro, and Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 15 in A Minor, Op. 132. For trivia fans: Hungarian composer Zoltan Kodaly (1882-1967) reformed his country’s music education for children, and the hand signals used in “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” were based on one segment of the Kodaly Method.

Kites Over Hoover Park
Saturday, April 22

The quad-line stunt kite fliers of 180 Go! will raise the excitement level at the annual Kites Over Hoover Park. The Illinois troupe will perform precision aerial maneuvers and formations choreographed to music. Audience members can get in on the highflying fun, too, by bringing their own kites or purchasing kites on-site. Other activities include kids’ games and races, candy drops, Benjamin Franklin appearance, kite flying and stunts, and food vendors. The 100 foot “big” kites will soar, weather permitting. To get there, take Interstate 80 Exit 254 and head south; Tidewater Drive is the first street to the left.

Kites Over Hoover Park -- 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday (4/22), 1 Tidewater Dr., West Branch; free; (319) 643-5301 or
