Red Cedar Chamber Music: CzechStrings
- 7 - 8:30 p.m.
- All Ages
Fresh off a highly successful first season as Red Cedar’s core ensemble and Directors, violinist Miera Kim and cellist Carey Bostian bring you a powerful Czech-inspired program. But watch out – not everything is what it seems. Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů’s Duo No. 2 sounds distinctly American, Warren Gooch’s Fauxmanian Dances live up to their name, and Bohemian born Antoine Kraft’s duo sounds a lot like Haydn. Czech enthusiasts will hear a great Furiant by Otakar Ševčík as well as a wonderful set of Czech folk songs arranged by Iowa composer Harvey Sollberger.
Performances of CzechStrings will culminate in October with MainStage events at 7 p.m. on Saturday October 14 at First Presbyterian Church, 2701 Rochester Ave., Iowa City, IA and 3 p.m. on Sunday October 15 at the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, 1400 Inspiration Place SW, Cedar Rapids, IA.
This concert is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.
