Event Description

For the first time since the gallery opened its doors in 2011, Gilded Pear Gallery will be exhibiting artworks created by the women who operate the gallery. Gallery Owner, Suzy McGrane-Hop, studied  fine arts locally at Coe College and will be exhibiting her personal works for the first time since her thesis show in 1998. “Studio guilt”- a term coined by artists, has been defined as the feeling of self-reproach for inactivity in producing artwork- this being the starting point of the concept behind GuILT. The exhibition challenges the makers in removing the traditional use of gilding and applying a contemporary twist to the use of gold and other fine materials. Ceramic and mixed media sculptures by Lauren Tucci, explore recognizable forms and the dissection of dream imagery. Abstracted canvas and paper works by Suzy address materiality as the primary voice while modernizing traditional processes.
