<p>It may be hard for you to feel optimistic about the future right now. If you have lost a loved one, you have probably found there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel. This can be a confusing time when you feel isolated and have many questions about things you have never faced before. Grief Share groups meet weekly to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Beginning Sunday, February 28 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm we will begin a 13-week series of Grief Share. You are welcome to begin attending the Grief Share group at any session. <p>The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library continues to partner with Anna Cooková, an instructor with CzechTalk, to offer online Czech language and culture lessons.</p><p>Beginner’s Czech Language & Culture I begins on Thursday, March 25, 2021. Each class will be held from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Central Time every Thursday from March 25 through May 27. During the 15 hours of instruction over 10 weeks, participants will learned to read, write, and speak in Czech. <p>Grant Wood’s American Gothic is probably the world’s most parodied American painting, second only to Leonardo’s Mona Lisa. The fact that thousands of parodies of American Gothic exist, dating back several decades, speaks to the enduring inspiration of one of America’s greatest works of art. This exhibition—a first for the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art—will look at many of these parodies—some in the flesh on the gallery’s walls and many others digitally projected in an attempt to share the incredible reach of this iconic painting. From Bill and Hillary Clinton to Leonardo and Mona Lisa to RuPaul as male and female, these parodies speak to how this one painting serves as the basis for looking at various contemporary people and issues. The fact that thousands of parodies of American Gothic exist, dating back several decades, speaks to the enduring inspiration of one of America’s greatest works of art. This exhibition—a first for the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art—will look at many of these parodies—some in the flesh on the gallery’s walls and many others digitally projected in an attempt to share the incredible reach of this iconic painting. From Bill and Hillary Clinton to Leonardo and Mona Lisa to RuPaul as male and female, these parodies speak to how this one painting serves as the basis for looking at various contemporary people and issues. <p>Our popular virtual cooking classes are back!</p><p>This famous Czech dessert is simple to prepare and is irresistible. It is a perfect combination of a sweet pastry cake (sometimes called “bubble cake”) and fruit. You can use any fruit you like or have available. This recipe will be a lot of fun and it will certainly make your weekend sweeter.</p><p><strong>Note</strong>: Suitable for vegetarians.</p><p><br></p><p>Cook and eat an authentic Czech and Slovak dish from the comfort of your home. Join us on Zoom and learn from Czech-born Chef Tom Slepicka in these hands-on interactive classes.</p><p>Slepicka graduated from culinary school in his hometown, Brno, located in the Czech Republic. While still in school, he established a successful full-service catering company, which operated in the Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, and Austria. Slepicka moved to the U.S. with his wife in 2014. From 2015-16, he operated the Czech Deli at the NewBo City Market.
