Holistic Healing for Educators & Classrooms with Prairiewoods, Credit 1
<p>Have the stressors of teaching, the pandemic, hybrid-learning, and daily life affected your personal happiness and well-being? Have you experienced difficulty finding time to engage in self-care activities that may help? In this one-hour credit course via Zoom, learn “microinterventions” to use daily to reset your brain and empower you to fully show up with a compassionate heart toward yourself, your students, your family and the world. Through practices of mindfulness, self-compassion and neuroscience, begin to restore holistic healing and build resiliency, joy, optimism and curiosity, leading to health and well-being. This online course with Prairiewoods is facilitated by Kim Seward, RN, BSN, CMI, and Ann Jackson, PBVM. It provides educators and any school or university staff with research-based theory, collaborative design and opportunities to practice. A text, <em>Practicing Presence,</em> is included in the registration fee. This first credit hour will be followed by credits 2 and 3 in the summer and fall of 2021. Credit 2 (June 23–25) will offer practices of mindfulness, self-compassion and neuroscience to develop a personal classroom toolkit for use with students. Deepening your own mindfulness and self-compassion skills will also be explored. Credit 3 (fall 2021) will invite collaboration to review outcomes, provide feedback and cite next steps. The cost is $35 per credit hour, paid to Grant Wood Area Education Agency. (Due to a generous donation by the Sisters of the Presentation, Dubuque, all additional costs will be covered!) <p>Learn the peyote stitch, a fundamental off loom weaving technique used in many projects in contemporary beading magazines and books. Participants will create a bracelet with peanut beads, which is like making something two layers thick with only one layer of actual beading. The bracelet is a substantial piece of jewelry that looks great on your wrist. Learn how to finish an edge and add a clasp. No previous experience is necessary. <p>Learn or hone your tubular herringbone skills to create this slightly undulating bracelet. Varied sizes of Toho beads and colors will be stitched to accentuate the ins and outs of the pattern. Your beading will go faster than you think, as you will be stitching 2 beads at a time. No experience needed.</p><p><em>Registration is through Kirkwood Community College. Kits 16x20 canvas or 12x12 canvas, 5 classes or 7 classes, breaks down to $30 per class or $20 per class and you don't even have to put on pants or a bra to paint, Shirts are recommended.
