Holistic Healing for Educators & Classrooms with Prairiewoods, Credit 1
<p>Have the stressors of teaching, the pandemic, hybrid-learning, and daily life affected your personal happiness and well-being? Have you experienced difficulty finding time to engage in self-care activities that may help? In this one-hour credit course via Zoom, learn “microinterventions” to use daily to reset your brain and empower you to fully show up with a compassionate heart toward yourself, your students, your family and the world. Through practices of mindfulness, self-compassion and neuroscience, begin to restore holistic healing and build resiliency, joy, optimism and curiosity, leading to health and well-being. This online course with Prairiewoods is facilitated by Kim Seward, RN, BSN, CMI, and Ann Jackson, PBVM. It provides educators and any school or university staff with research-based theory, collaborative design and opportunities to practice. A text, <em>Practicing Presence,</em> is included in the registration fee. This first credit hour will be followed by credits 2 and 3 in the summer and fall of 2021. Credit 2 (June 23–25) will offer practices of mindfulness, self-compassion and neuroscience to develop a personal classroom toolkit for use with students. Deepening your own mindfulness and self-compassion skills will also be explored. Credit 3 (fall 2021) will invite collaboration to review outcomes, provide feedback and cite next steps. The cost is $35 per credit hour, paid to Grant Wood Area Education Agency. (Due to a generous donation by the Sisters of the Presentation, Dubuque, all additional costs will be covered!) Winter Reading Program
<p>It is time to get cozy, snuggle down, and read a good book. </p><p>Our winter reading program starts January 4th, 2021 and lasts until February 13th, 2021.</p><p>This winter reading challenge is for all ages. Your goal is to get to 500 points. Each chapter book, audio book, or e-book is worth 125 points. For our younger readers: each picture book is worth 25 points. </p><p>Don't forget about the activities. There are 6 winter trivia questions. If you answer them correctly you will get 25 points. Home Team Huddle: Trivia Time-Out

That's why we're kicking off <strong>Home Team Huddle: Trivia Time Out, a virtual trivia night hosted by Andrew's Bar Exam! On Friday, January 29 you can stay home and play on Zoom, or come out to the Olympic South Side Theater*</strong> for eight rounds of general knowledge trivia, with topics for everyone! You don't have to be a super-jock to be your team's MVP! Brucemore Mansion Tour (Self-Guided)
<p>Voted a top tourist attraction in the state of Iowa in 2020, you don't want to miss this personal experience to step back in time! The tour experience has been re-imagined with safety and comfort in mind. Enjoy the splendor and history of the first, second, and third floors of the 1886 Queen Anne mansion. Tickets will be sold for timed entry, which will be scheduled every thirty minutes. Each tour has limited capacity to maintain physical distancing needs.
