  <p>On display now in the Main Library Gallery, University of Iowa Libraries:</p><p><a href="https://www.lib.uiowa.edu/gallery/exhibit/hey-buddy-im-bill/"><em>Hey Buddy, I’m Bill&nbsp;</em></a>tells the story of Bill Sackter, the namesake of Wild Bill’s (formerly Wild Bill’s Coffee Shop) in the University of Iowa School of Social Work. From his early life in Minneapolis to his 44-year institutionalization for an intellectual disability to his years of friends and fame in Iowa City, the exhibit shares a glimpse into Bill’s life and legacy. The exhibit also acknowledges some of Iowa’s own history with institutionalization and progress with disability rights, and places Bill’s story in the context of the historic treatment of people with disabilities. • Adam Rake: World Lines

  <p>Iowa City artist Adam Rake explores the complex ways in which the meaning of a work of art changes over time as technology and culture evolve. &nbsp;To convey this theme, Rake draws on the precedent of historical artworks but filters them through his own unique lens. &nbsp;He utilizes his printmaking experience to distort, alter, and augment the original images into something entirely new. &nbsp;Through these works, he considers the ever-changing relationship between contemporary culture and the work of art. &nbsp;</p> 2023-09-16 16:00:00 -0500

But what do we really know about the family other than from our own experiences in our own families. This presentation will begin about 3.5 million years ago and conclude in present day. It will connect the institution of the family from the perspective of anthropology, history, and also discuss the relationship with family law, property law, and probate law and how all of these disciplines and subject matter are intricately intertwined in relation to the family. We will also see how the family has been categorized into five distinct classifications and how each classification contributed to the modern day family. Tremble Clefs was founded in Scottsdale, AZ in 1994 and is expanding to Iowa City to engage the PD community in music therapy and social support. The loss of voice, communication difficulties resulting in a decreased volume of voice and lung capacity, and depression are the common symptoms of PD. This weekly program will provide vocal, breathing, and movement exercises that benefit the participants to meet their specific needs in PD and create a supportive and therapeutic environment for the individuals with PD and their caregivers. Sun Joo Lee, a board-certified music therapist and a director of Tremble Clef, AZ, who has been leading the group since 2008, will facilitate the program in Iowa City. • Hey Buddy, I'm Bill

  <p>On display now in the Main Library Gallery, University of Iowa Libraries:</p><p><a href="https://www.lib.uiowa.edu/gallery/exhibit/hey-buddy-im-bill/"><em>Hey Buddy, I’m Bill&nbsp;</em></a>tells the story of Bill Sackter, the namesake of Wild Bill’s (formerly Wild Bill’s Coffee Shop) in the University of Iowa School of Social Work. From his early life in Minneapolis to his 44-year institutionalization for an intellectual disability to his years of friends and fame in Iowa City, the exhibit shares a glimpse into Bill’s life and legacy. The exhibit also acknowledges some of Iowa’s own history with institutionalization and progress with disability rights, and places Bill’s story in the context of the historic treatment of people with disabilities.   <p><strong>Thursdays, October 5-26, 3:00 pm&nbsp;</strong></p><p><strong>Location: Room 302 at the Iowa City Senior Center</strong></p><p>Each week we will watch a film followed by a short discussion facilitated by volunteers from the 100 Grannies for a Livable Future.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Oct 5: 2040 -</strong> Concerned about his young daughter's future, filmmaker Damon Gameau travels the world in search of new approaches and solutions to climate change.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Oct 12: A Plastic Ocean -</strong> This film documents the global effects of plastic pollution and highlights workable technologies and innovative solutions that everyone, from governments to individuals, can do to create a cleaner and greener ocean.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Oct 19: Oceans: The Mystery of the Missing Plastic</strong> 99% of the plastic that should be floating in the oceans is missing. In this investigation, scientists embark in search of the micro-plastics. Small, mostly invisible, toxic, they are home to a new ecosystem: the plastisphere. But where are they? Ingested by organisms? Buried under the ocean floor? Degraded by bacteria?
