Maddie Poppe

Maddie Poppe, a twenty-three-year-old singer-songwriter from Clarksville, Iowa, is the Season 16 winner of American Idol. Maddie fell in love with music at a young age, learning to play guitar, ukulele and piano. In 2016, Maddie released her debut album, Songs from the Basement, which she wrote, produced and recorded alongside her father, Trent. After years of performing locally in Iowa, she decided to audition for American Idol - a decision she calls her “saving grace.” Ultimately, Maddie stole America’s hearts and was crowned the winner, giving the audience an emotional, overjoyed, and tear-stained performance of her single, “Going Going Gone.”

Since her Idol victory, Maddie has been in high demand, appearing on multiple TV shows including Jimmy Kimmel Live, Live! With Kelly & Ryan and the Radio Disney Music Awards, as well as performing at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, the Special Olympics, and CMA Fest in Nashville.

Maddie’s sophomore album Whirlwind reached #2 on the iTunes Pop charts and her hit single “Made You Miss” earned #19 on the Hot AC Radio charts. Her sentimental ballad “Not Losing You” also swept radio charts, reaching #17.

In the fall of 2019, Maddie supported Ingrid Michaelson on The Dramatic Tour, an experience she calls a dream come true. Hoping to brighten the 2020 holiday season, Maddie released a holiday EP aptly titled Christmas From Home on November 20th and embarked on a near-sold out acoustic Christmas tour. Maddie is currently on the road playing socially distanced shows and working on new music!
2021-03-29 20:30:00 -05006/12/217:00 p.m.Riverside Casino & Golf Resort®Riverside -

Early Stage Dementia Support Group

Early Stage Support Groups benefit persons living with dementia by providing a platform to build a network of others sharing a similar experience; offer ways to solve common problems; talk through challenges and suggest ways to cope; create a safe space to share feelings, needs, and concerns; and learn about local resources. To determine whether a person living with dementia is fit for the group, a screening is required. This ensures the group meets the needs of its members. In order to participate in the group, each member must: have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia, have mild memory loss or other mild symptoms due to dementia, acknowledge their diagnosis and related symptoms, be willing to participate in group discussions, be able to communicate their symptoms and experience, and have no other serious medical conditions or mental illness that could put anyone at risk. Group members and care partners must also recognize that membership in the group is temporary, as all persons with dementia will progress beyond the ability to participate. This group will meet monthly on the third Tuesday at 10:00 am beginning March 16, 2021, and it will run for six months. After six months, all members will be rescreened. Those still fit will be invited back to the group, while those who have progressed, and their caregivers, will be transitioned to more appropriate resources. New members will be accepted until May 2021. Anyone interested in joining or learning more about the group can reach out to Acacia Deadrick at (712) 454-5035 or aadeadrick@alz.org.
2021-06-15 11:30:00 -05006/15/2110:00 a.m.Alzheimer's AssociationCedar Rapids -

Women of Ragtime

Women of Ragtime

Women ragtime composers faced challenges – it wasn’t considered very “ladylike” to write this kind of music, and once they got married, they were expected to give up their career and raise a family. Still, a surprising amount of ragtime was written by young women, and much of it was very successful in its time. We’ll share some music by May Aufderheide, the Indiana composer who is considered the best of the female composers; Charlotte Blake of Detroit, who was known not only for ragtime but also for popular songs; and Irene Giblin, who got her start demonstrating sheet music in a St. Louis department store. Along with that were some famous singers; vaudeville performer Sophie Tucker had an unusual rag written especially for her.

“Cherry & Jerry” is Isaac Cherry on percussion and Jerry Rabushka on piano. Based in St. Louis, the duo is also part of the larger “Ragged Blade Band,” and has toured music of the ragtime era throughout several states.

This program will be via Zoom. Registration is required to get the Zoom link.
