Make Glass Beads: Intro to Lampworking
<p>This class will teach you the art of lampworking, a technique of using a torch and melting glass rods to create various shapes. Safety and appropriate equipment handling are emphasized. Your beads will need to stay in a kiln overnight to be annealed. No previous experience needed.</p><p><strong>NOTE: <em>Participants must be at least 15 years old. </em></strong>Instructor: Karen Kubby.</p><p>Registration is $120 and includes all materials, instruction, use of studio and tools, and annealing. <p>Learn to wrap thinner wire around thicker wire. This is a contemporary wire wrapping technique. Create a loop with this technique. Slip a recycled glass donut on this loop to form a lovely earring. Add an ear wire or create your own post. No experience needed. Tubular Herringbone Bracelet through Kirkwood
<p>Learn or hone your tubular herringbone skills to create this slightly undulating bracelet. Varied sizes of Toho beads and colors will be stitched to accentuate the ins and outs of the pattern. Your beading will go faster than you think, as you will be stitching 2 beads at a time. No experience needed.</p><p><em>Registration is through Kirkwood Community College. Growlers: Reactive Dog Obedience
<p>This obedience class is smaller in size and designed for dogs that are aggressive both on and off leash. If you feel your dog is aggressive, overanxious, hard to handle in most situations, has bitten or may bite, then this is the obedience class for you. If you feel your dog meets the above criteria, then successful completion of this course is required before taking Dog Obedience I. This course sets up scenarios for owners to learn how to handle situations in which their dog may be reactive. Not all dogs will finish this course and be 'cured' of their reactivity, and the course is mostly focused on teaching owners/handlers how to handle certain situations that may arise with their pets. Students should bring vaccination records on the first night of class. Please do not bring your dog to the first class. Registration is required prior to the class start date. Triple Treat Bracelet
<p>This herringbone bracelet helps you learn how to move from a larger base to three individual strips of beading. Connect these three strips back into a larger base on the other end. The clasp will be a perfectly matching vintage button or a handmade glass piece. This bracelet can be worn as a flat three stranded bracelet or twisted for a different look. No previous experience necessary. Instructor: Karen Kubby.</p><p>Registration is $72 and includes all materials and instruction. Register in person, via phone at 319 338-1566, or on-line.</p><p>During the COVID-19 recovery period, classes are limited to 6 people on a first come first served basis via paying the registration fee. Face coverings must be worn during class and participants will be spaced at least 6 feet from each other. Tools will not be shared and will be cleaned before and after use.
