Gryls Night Out: Peyote Bracelet with Peanut Beads
<p>Learn the peyote stitch, a fundamental off loom weaving technique used in many projects in contemporary beading magazines and books. Participants will create a bracelet with peanut beads, which is like making something two layers thick with only one layer of actual beading. The bracelet is a substantial piece of jewelry that looks great on your wrist. Learn how to finish an edge and add a clasp. No previous experience is necessary. Instructor: Karen Kubby.</p><p>Registration is $68 and includes all materials and instruction. Tubular Herringbone Bracelet through Kirkwood
<p>Learn or hone your tubular herringbone skills to create this slightly undulating bracelet. Varied sizes of Toho beads and colors will be stitched to accentuate the ins and outs of the pattern. Your beading will go faster than you think, as you will be stitching 2 beads at a time. No experience needed.</p><p><em>Registration is through Kirkwood Community College. Register at:</em></p><p><a href="http://www.kirkwood.edu">www.kirkwood.edu</a><em> and go to Continuing Education and then search for Beadology Iowa under the instructor search. Make Glass Beads: Intro to Lampworking
<p>This class will teach you the art of lampworking, a technique of using a torch and melting glass rods to create various shapes. Safety and appropriate equipment handling are emphasized. Your beads will need to stay in a kiln overnight to be annealed. Winter Reading Program
<p>It is time to get cozy, snuggle down, and read a good book. </p><p>Our winter reading program starts January 4th, 2021 and lasts until February 13th, 2021.</p><p>This winter reading challenge is for all ages. Your goal is to get to 500 points. Each chapter book, audio book, or e-book is worth 125 points. For our younger readers: each picture book is worth 25 points. </p><p>Don't forget about the activities. There are 6 winter trivia questions. If you answer them correctly you will get 25 points.
