Coe College Marquis Series: Reginald Dwayne Betts
<p>Join us for an inspiring evening at the Coe College Marquis Series event!</p><p>For decades, the Marquis Series has brought exceptional talent to Cedar Rapids. This year, Coe is thrilled to present Reginald Dwayne Betts!</p><p>Betts, a former inmate turned poet, lawyer, and activist, has an incredible story of resilience. He's even received a Macarthur Fellowship. Join us for his one-man performance, "Felon: An American Washi Tale."</p><p>Swamp Fox Bookstore will be on hand to sell Betts's books, so you can take a piece of inspiration home with you!</p><p>Co-sponsored by the Prison Learning Initiative and Coe's African American Studies program, this event promises to be a powerful exploration of transformation.</p><p>Mark your calendars and invite your friends to this inspiring evening on September 28th at 7:00 PM. Boro Beads
<p>This is an intermediate class for those with some lampworking experience. Use borosilicate glass to make glass beads. The colors are vibrant! Make Glass Beads –Introduction to Lampworking
<p>This class will teach you the art of lampworking, a technique of using a torch and melting glass rods to create various shapes. Safety and appropriate equipment handling are emphasized. Your beads will need to stay in a kiln overnight to be annealed. No previous experience needed. Read on the Rug
<p>Join us on the second Wednesday of each month in Iowa Hall at the UI Museum of Natural History for Read on the Rug. Ideal for families with kiddos aged 2-5, all are welcome to this free educational program. This program series was designed with our youngest museum lovers in mind. Come along as we build community and inspire a sense of wonder, curiosity, and respect for our natural and cultural worlds with stories, sing-alongs, and more in one of the most special places in Iowa City—<em>no matter your age</em>.</p><p>We'll meet in Iowa Hall. To access this space, use the main entrance on the east side of Macbride Hall or take the elevator with street level access just south of the main steps to the first floor and enter the south doors of Iowa Hall. Your museum staff and our program mascot Lumpy the Woolly Mammoth will see you there!</p><p><em>Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events.
