How to Build a High-Performance Home
- 6 - 7:30 p.m.
- Ages 17+
How much does it cost to build an energy-efficient home? How do we get the most benefit from our budget, and what can we do for an existing home? This two-day course provides an excellent overview of what you need to know to build an energy-efficient home, from upgrades costing only a few hundred dollars, up to a net zero energy home. The first day focuses on design, space planning and the building science that makes homes efficient. The second day focuses on building techniques, materials, performance testing, and using the newly released Appraisal Institute tool to manage lender appraisals. You’ll see and feel samples of alternative, high-performance materials and learn how they work. Updated this year will be a discussion of small homes, and how they can live bigger than they are.
