Artisan Bread Basics Series
- 6 - 8 p.m.
- Ages 17+
Sourdough is known for its characteristic flavor ranging from mild to strong, chewy texture, and crisp crust. Compared to standard loaves, sourdough is easier to digest due to the naturally occurring acids and long fermentation time. This series will cover all the basics of how to bake delicious artisanal sourdough bread in your own home. We will start with the baking process and, working backwards through the process, we will add in a new element each class: baking, shaping, mixing and rising, and fermentation. Not only will you learn the process of making sourdough, but also the science behind what makes sourdough an artisanal treat. Classes include: Artisan Bread Basics: The Baking Process, Artisan Bread Basics: Dough Shaping, Artisan Bread Basics: Mixing and Rising, and Artisan Bread Basics: Fermentation and Starters.
Registration is required prior to the class start date. If you have questions or would like to register, please visit www.kirkwood.edu/ce or contact 319-398-1022.
