Event Description

Marion Mayor Nick AbouAssaly will preside over Marion’s 25th Annual State of the City presentation and luncheon Thursday, January 31. The mayor will review his city’s accomplishments and look ahead to 2019 and beyond at   the luncheon and presentation at the Cedar Rapids Marriott, 1200 Collins Road NE. Members of the audience are encouraged to ask the mayor questions immediately following the speech. LWVLC member Susie Weinacht of Cedar Rapids will emcee the program.

The Marion State of the City is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Linn County with the cooperation of the City of Marion and the support of Marion businesses. The event is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The luncheon begins at 11:30 with the presentation at noon. Reservations at $35 per person and $350 for a table for ten may be made by contacting Dawn Jones at by January 23. Reservations may be made online at the Linn County LWV website, Advance payment serves as reservation confirmation.

Funds raised by the Marion State of the City event are used to help the League cover the cost of nonpartisan voter-education materials and forums. Limited free seating, on a reservation basis, will be available to allow individuals to attend and observe the presentation only. 

 The League of Women Voters of Linn County is a non-profit, volunteer political organization which encourages citizen participation in government, neither supports or oppose any candidate or political party and is open to any citizen 16 years and older.
