In the late 1940s and 1950s, the Western

genre was ubiquitous in film, radio, television,

and music. We wanted to grow up to be that

cowboy or cowgirl portrayed as one who

“always roped better, rode better, sang better,

and shot better than anyone.” This summer,

The Center’s reader’s theatre group will

explore the legends, myths, and songs of the

era of the cowboy, as they were romanticized

and immortalized in the media. We will end

our program with Jack Benny’s radio version

of that epic of the West, the Stanley Kramer

production of “High Noon.” Afterwards, join

us for refreshments.
