This year's Summer Reading Program theme is "A Universe of Stories." One way we can discover new stories around the world (and beyond) is to encourage cultural literacy. On Wednesdays, join us for an activity that will help us learn and understand something new about different world cultures.
Diwali is one of the most important and colorful of the Indian festivals. It is a festival of joy, splendor, brightness and happiness. During Diwali, Hindus draw bright Rangoli patterns on the floor by the front door to encourage the goddess Lakshmi to enter their homes. These patterns are inspired by nature and are generally made with white powder or rice flour, chalk, colored sand or flowers. Today we will learn about and create Rangoli patterns that won’t wash away using paper plates and paint!
