Linn County Blindness and Low Vision Support Group
- 1 - 3 p.m.
- All Ages
If you are blind or experiencing loss of vision, life can be pretty scary if you don’t have any tools or connections to deal with the situation. Participating in a support group can help you find that you are not alone, and together we can share tips and tricks we have found to overcome difficulties posed by loss of vision. Though not a part of the Iowa Department for the Blind (IDB), support groups also act as a liaison with that state agency that provides training, equipment, and counseling to those with vision loss.
The Linn County blindness support group will have its next regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, 25 July 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to approximately 3:00 p.m. in Sedlacek Hall at Cottage Grove Place, 2115 1st Av SE, in Cedar Rapids.
Our guests will be Terry Durham and Garry Glockhoff of the Cedar Rapids noon Lions Club. The Lions are a venerable service organization that has long had an interest in serving the blind. We can explore ways we may be able to benefit each other mutually. One way we can help them is to bring any unused and unwanted eyeglasses (or hearing aids) to contribute to their projects in less privileged countries.
In the remaining time we will work on getting some tech-support sessions going outside of our monthly meetings. We have members who are willing to share their skills with iPhone and Android, so if you are interested in operating such devices, please come with your ideas regarding time and greatest needs.
If you have questions, or want more information about the group, feel free to call Jonathan Ice at 319-298-2919, or e-mail at email@example.com.
