Michael M. Collins will present a program about his father entitled Arthur A. Collins: A Personal Retrospective on Thursday, October 10 at 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Marion Heritage Center & Museum. Arthur Collins, the founder of Collins Radio, grew up in an exciting time in modern science--a renaissance in experimental physics and the birth of modern physics, when the true nature of matter was revealed. It was an exciting period of synergy between theory and experimentation, when the skill in crafting scientific apparatus was as important as a theoretical understanding. Radio wave propagation was in its infancy but young Arthur had had a respect for the elegance of the structure and order in Nature that guided him all his life.
The museum will open at 6 p.m. for an social hour and the program begins at 7 p.m.
This is the third of a series of programs about the current exhibition, The Collins Story: on the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing which runs through February 29, 2020 in collaboration with the Arthur A. Collins Legacy Association.
Exhibition is sponsored in part by the City of Marion Hotel Motel Grant Program. Admission to the exhibition and all the outreach programs in the series is free courtesy of a grant from the McIntyre Foundation of Cedar Rapids. Presented in collaboration with the Arthur A. Collins Legacy Association.
