On March 17, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds declared a statewide public health disaster emergency in response to the state's coronavirus outbreak. The proclamation includes the restriction of in-person gatherings of 10 or more people along with the temporary closing of several businesses in the arts, culture and entertainment sector.

Most of the public gatherings listed on the Hoopla calendar are canceled or postponed through the end of April. Please check with event organizers to confirm the status of events you see listed.

A virtual option has been created to post and search for those events and programs that are offering an online gathering opportunity for our Hoopla readers. Enjoy!

Event Description

The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois (RMHC-EIWI) will host the 36th Annual Red Shoe Run & Walk. This event is a family favorite with nearly 1,000 participants, spectators, volunteers, and supporters gathering outside of the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City to raise funds for the House.

Gather friends, family, or co-workers and form a team to raise money for RMHC-EIWI.  Teams of 10 or more get their group name/logo on the back of their race tee-shirts. We have lots to do for all ages. Ronald’s Run 100-yard dash is a time honored favorite for kids with the Kids Zone including bounce houses, face painting, balloon animals, and so much more.

Through the Ronald McDonald House of Iowa City and Family Rooms in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids, we help remove the barriers that separate families while they receive treatment for a critically ill or injured child. We’re more than just a place to stay—our House and Family Rooms provide the essential comforts of home: warm beds, hot showers, home-cooked meals, kitchen and laundry facilities, a playground, recreation areas, and more.
