On March 17, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds declared a statewide public health disaster emergency in response to the state's coronavirus outbreak. The proclamation includes the restriction of in-person gatherings of 10 or more people along with the temporary closing of several businesses in the arts, culture and entertainment sector.

Most of the public gatherings listed on the Hoopla calendar are canceled or postponed through the end of April. Please check with event organizers to confirm the status of events you see listed.

A virtual option has been created to post and search for those events and programs that are offering an online gathering opportunity for our Hoopla readers. Enjoy!

Event Description

CRFD Safety Scoop: 55+ Initiative - Matching Adults to Volunteer Opportunities.

Kayla Paulson, Volunteer Engagement: 55+ Initiative & Service Enterprise (United Way of East Central Iowa) will offer a thoughtful conversation about community needs and ways that volunteers can help meet them. You may know that volunteering can improve your own health and the community, but aren’t sure how to get started or if you want to do it. We will share one-time no commitment, semi-regular, and short-term project-based opportunities for you to see if one matches your interests, abilities and lifestyle.

Safety Scoop is FREE and open to anyone.  Central Fire Station, 713 First Avenue SE.  Refreshments provided, parking limited. Call 319.286.5166 for questions and/or accommodations. Optional tour afterwards.
