On March 17, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds declared a statewide public health disaster emergency in response to the state's coronavirus outbreak. The proclamation includes the restriction of in-person gatherings of 10 or more people along with the temporary closing of several businesses in the arts, culture and entertainment sector.

Most of the public gatherings listed on the Hoopla calendar are canceled or postponed through the end of April. Please check with event organizers to confirm the status of events you see listed.

A virtual option has been created to post and search for those events and programs that are offering an online gathering opportunity for our Hoopla readers. Enjoy!

Event Description

The infamous Yarn Harlot describes a thrum as “a little wisp of unspun fleece or roving that is knit into your project every so often”. We are going to knit mittens using thrums to make our mittens extra hygge (cozy) and warm. Most knitters of thrummed mittens buy white roving and a darker yarn, but you can use any colored roving and any colored yarn for your mittens for fun too! You will need:

100 grams/3.5 oz. ball of worsted weight wool (app. 220 yards)

50 grams wool roving, divided into two halves for the two mittens

2 US size#6 (4.0 mm)  (or the size needles required to get gauge, probably the size recommended on ball band)

Locking stitch markers

Ruler/measuring tape

Darning needle

10” piece of cotton yarn/waste yarn to use as stitch holder

This class runs 4 weeks from 1/7/20-1/28/20
