Puppy Obedience I with AKC® S.T.A.R. Puppy®
- 5 - 6 p.m.
- Ages 17+
Based on the American Kennel Club® S.T.A.R Puppy® program, the goal of this course is to teach both owners and puppies effective behaviors for building a lasting relationship through obedience training. Some of the commands covered in this course include: walking nicely on a leash, sit, come, down, and stay. This class culminates with the AKC® S.T.A.R. Puppy® test. Successful completion of this course, or Dog Obedience I, is required to enroll in Obedience II and Agility courses and is seen as a good pre-requisite for those hoping to obtain a Canine Good Citizen® certification. Exceptional puppies will be able to test for the Canine Good Citizen® title after completion of this course.
Please read: This course is for dogs 12 months and younger and includes the testing fee for one test attempt. Those wishing to re-test will need to sign-up for the test-only class. No puppies the first night. Please bring a pen, paper and shot records for the instructor to keep to first class. Recommended vaccines for your dog are Rabies, Distemper/Parvo, and Bordetella. Students who do not pass this class are welcome to retake it as many times as they need to pass. Upon successful completion of the test, additional fees, between $10 and $20, are payable to the American Kennel Club. These fees vary depending on the type of certification you would like your canine to receive.
