On March 17, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds declared a statewide public health disaster emergency in response to the state's coronavirus outbreak. The proclamation includes the restriction of in-person gatherings of 10 or more people along with the temporary closing of several businesses in the arts, culture and entertainment sector.

Most of the public gatherings listed on the Hoopla calendar are canceled or postponed through the end of April. Please check with event organizers to confirm the status of events you see listed.

Event Description

The Cedar Rapids Garden Club will welcome author and floral designer Laura Dowling to Cedar Rapids on Friday, May 1. Dowling served as White House chief floral designer from 2009-2015.

A combined lecture, luncheon, garden marketplace and book signing, “Celebrate May Day with Laura Dowling” will be held at the Cedar Rapids Country Club. The event is a fundraiser for the Garden Club and its civic beautification projects.

Early-bird luncheon tickets are $85; after April 10, the price is $100. A garden market with specialty gifts and plants will be held before the luncheon. After the luncheon, Dowling will sign her books, which will be available for purchase.
