On March 17, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds declared a statewide public health disaster emergency in response to the state's coronavirus outbreak. The proclamation includes the restriction of in-person gatherings of 10 or more people along with the temporary closing of several businesses in the arts, culture and entertainment sector.

Most of the public gatherings listed on the Hoopla calendar are canceled or postponed through the end of April. Please check with event organizers to confirm the status of events you see listed.

A virtual option has been created to post and search for those events and programs that are offering an online gathering opportunity for our Hoopla readers. Enjoy!

Event Description

Ignatius of Loyola was both a mystic with a powerful vision of the interconnectedness of humanity with all other creatures and also a practical man of his time and place. He was the inventor of the modern university and the visionary founder of the Jesuits. Because of his special interest in personal and social transformation, we at Prairiewoods are including him in our series of retreats featuring cosmic visionaries of the past and what they have to teach us about our pilgrimage on planet Earth today. Join facilitator Father Dennis Hamm, SJ, at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) as we work with forms of meditation, contemplation and discernment inspired by Ignatius’ methods in the latter’s Spiritual Exercises. Dennis will give special attention to the spirituality of Pope Francis as articulated in his eco-encyclical, Laudato Si’: On Care for our Common Home, in response to the cry of Earth and the cry of the poor. The cost of this weekend retreat is $230 and includes sessions, lodging and all meals. The commuter fee is $180 and includes sessions, Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday lunch. For more information or to register, contact Prairiewoods at www.Prairiewoods.org or 319-395-6700.
