On March 17, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds declared a statewide public health disaster emergency in response to the state's coronavirus outbreak. The proclamation includes the restriction of in-person gatherings of 10 or more people along with the temporary closing of several businesses in the arts, culture and entertainment sector.

Most of the public gatherings listed on the Hoopla calendar are canceled or postponed through the end of April. Please check with event organizers to confirm the status of events you see listed.

A virtual option has been created to post and search for those events and programs that are offering an online gathering opportunity for our Hoopla readers. Enjoy!

Event Description

The farmer-poet Wendell Berry (1934- ) is arguably one of today’s most important, prophetic and interesting writers and critics on matters of land, health, community and spirituality. This contemplative retreat with facilitator Eric Anglada at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) will be a celebration of Berry’s life and words, delving into his importance for our precarious age. Our time together will include talks, discussion, silence and contemplative time outdoors. The commuter fee for this one-day retreat is $150 and includes sessions and all Saturday meals. (You may choose to pay an additional $55 to stay overnight Saturday, including Sunday breakfast.) For more information or to register, contact Prairiewoods at www.Prairiewoods.org or 319-395-6700.
