On March 17, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds declared a statewide public health disaster emergency in response to the state's coronavirus outbreak. The proclamation includes the restriction of in-person gatherings of 10 or more people along with the temporary closing of several businesses in the arts, culture and entertainment sector.

Most of the public gatherings listed on the Hoopla calendar are canceled or postponed through the end of April. Please check with event organizers to confirm the status of events you see listed.

A virtual option has been created to post and search for those events and programs that are offering an online gathering opportunity for our Hoopla readers. Enjoy!

Event Description

Join a vibrant group of women seeking spiritual enrichment, inspiration and motivation in the supportive setting of Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha). This group, facilitated by Ann Jackson, PBVM, meets weekly during the school year. We invite you to join us any Wednesday you are available! Topics arise from within the hearts and minds of those gathered. We participate in deep reflection, learning, lively conversation, laughter, storytelling and inquiry to generate incredible energy and spiritual stimulation. We also view TED Talks, converse, reflect, support and challenge one another to personal growth, no matter what stage of life. February through April, we explore how to find wonder in everyday life through Prairiewoods’ Spirituality in the 21st Century speaker Sharon Blackie’s book The Enchanted Life: Unlocking the Magic of the Everyday. In it, Sharon “offers a set of practical and grounded tools for enchanting our lives and the places we live, which lead to a greater sense of meaning and belonging in the world.” Award-winning writer, visionary, teacher and speaker, Sharon is recognized for her wisdom in Celtic studies. There is a suggested donation of $10, which will be accepted at the door. Registration is requested by the previous day. For more information or to register, contact Prairiewoods at www.Prairiewoods.org or 319-395-6700.
