St. Francis Day Celebration: Blessing of the Animals & Poetry Book Launch
- 2 - 4 p.m.
- All Ages
Celebrate the patron saint of ecology, St. Francis of Assisi, on his feast day with Prairiewoods’ popular annual Blessing of the Animals! Join us online via Zoom for a celebration of our connection with animals, trees and all of Creation. Kids and animal companions (whether furry, winged, scaled or finned) are invited to join us for this free afternoon. At this year’s celebration, we’ll also launch Outstretched Boughs, a book of poetry and reflections on Prairiewoods’ trees. It was started as a labor of love by Prairiewoods friend Kathy Decker and foundress Betty Daugherty, FSPA. It has been completed in loving memory of both women. This 40-page, self-published gem features poems and photographs of the trees at Prairiewoods. It can be purchased now for $10 (plus $2 shipping, if applicable) by calling 319-395-6700. This afternoon will include poetry readings to honor trees that fell in the storm and celebrate those that are still standing. Please be ready with your screen of choice, your pets and your sense of wonder at the beauty of trees and all creation! To join the celebration, use the Zoom meeting link (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89742720267?pwd=OUN3SnB4Y2RBOTBzYVFndFd2dG9Vdz09). If prompted, enter meeting ID 897 4272 0267 and password 731481.
