Event Description

Eva Gutmann: A Story Told Through Letters And Documents- Genealogy Society Program

Ute Brandenburg will present the program at the October 31st Zoom meeting of the Iowa City Genealogical Society. She will share the story of Eva Gutman, an unwed young mother, who was working as a domestic servant far away from home when her father’s sudden death changed the course of her life. Eva’s story, as told through her father’s letters, court documents, emigration records, photos, and oral family history, provides compelling insights into the life experiences of women at the turn of the 20th century.

Ute’s research specialties include German immigration to the Midwest, researching in German parish records, and breaking through brick walls by identifying immigrants’ German home towns. She is the owner of German Script Experts.

Everyone is welcome to participate in the Zoom meeting, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. October 31st. Send an email to icgsnews@gmail.com to receive details on how to join the meeting
