Preserving Your Family Treasures
Your family's history probably includes many things other than vital statistics. Do you have documents, family heirlooms or other mementoes that you want to preserve for future generations? At our January 30th meeting Giselle Simon from the University of Iowa Libraries Preservation and Conservation Department will present Preserving Your Family Treasures. Giselle will share how to store materials, including textiles, photographs, papers, books and scrapbooks. Don't know where to find materials to use for safely storing those important items? Giselle will provide resources for obtaining supplies for proper storage and preservation.
Giselle Simón is the Conservator at the University of Iowa Libraries and Adjunct Faculty at the University of Iowa Center for the Book. She began book conservation work at Northwestern University Library in 1992. From 2001–2012 she worked at the Newberry Library in Chicago, first as Collections Conservator and then as Director of Conservation Services. She has taught bookbinding and conservation classes at Columbia College Chicago Center for the Book and Paper Arts and collections care courses at the University of Chicago’s Graham School. She is a Co-Director for Paper and Book Intensive, a working sabbatical for paper and book practitioners.
Everyone is welcome to participate in the Zoom meeting, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. Jan 30th. Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to receive details on how to join the meeting.
