Visiting Artist Series: Sculptural Hand building Demonstration with Veronica Watkins

Next in our Visiting Artist Series is Ceramic Artist Veronica Watkins. In this demonstration, Veronica will demonstrate how she makes interesting forms through throwing and altering with hand-built additions. Her forms incorporate geometry while keeping the subtle nuances of the wheel. Veronica will also discuss how she creates depth with layered surface techniques for any temperature range.

9:00 AM–11:30 PM – Demonstration – Relating 3-D forms to Surfaces Design and Treatments. Introduction to Terra Sigillata.
11:30 PM–12:30 PM – Lunch Break (lunch not included)
12:30 PM-4:00 PM – Demonstration – Making complex forms with thrown and altered forms combined with hand-built components.
4:00 PM-5:30 PM – Dinner Break (dinner not included)
5:30 PM–7:00 PM – Artist Reception and Gallery Talk (free & open to the public)
Artist Bio: Veronica Watkins grew up in the Kansas City Missouri area. She received a BFA from Northwest Missouri State University in 1996; she went on to receive an MFA from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 2000. She resides on a cattle ranch in Maryville Missouri where she takes care of her family, maintains a studio practice and teaches as the Assistant Professor of Ceramics at Northwest Missouri State University. She has spent time in residency at The Clay Studio of Missoula and at Belger Crane Yard Studios in Kansas City. Her work has been exhibited regionally, nationally and internationally.
