Event Description

Mildred Pelzer (née Weenink) was an American art teacher, artist and muralist known for her work in public spaces. One of these commissions was the series of eight murals for the Hotel Jefferson, of Iowa City. In addition to her mural work, Pelzer was known for portraits, floral paintings, and landscapes. Mildred Pelzer’s Iowa looks at a number of these works: the Hotel Jefferson murals in the CRMA’s collection, her enormous Symphony of Iowa from 1935, and smaller artworks, placing them into context in Pelzer’s life.
