Event Description

Hosted by Daniel Kleinknecht
Featuring Bel Canto by Ann Patchett

Introducing Cedar Rapids Opera’s first-ever Book Club! Opera is all about telling stories, but we like reading them, too! Join us for lively discussion and an exploration of opera on the page instead of the stage.

We will kick-off with Ann Patchett’s lyrical and unforgettable novel, Bel Canto. From the Maestro: “This was a favorite read for me years ago. I love it when the main character – the redeeming spirit - is a musician, in this case a soprano, Roxanne Cross. Her gift as a singer allows her to be the intermediary between factions of the hostages and the captors. Bel canto means “beautiful singing” in Italian. For me, Bel Canto is a beautiful reading adventure. I can’t wait to share it with our new Book Club.”

Held via Zoom. All are welcome, even those who haven't read the novel.
