Event Description

A Mass in celebration of Mother Earth, “Missa Gaia Earth Mass”, will be performed by the Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale. The contemporary ecumenical and ecological Mass was originally performed by the Paul Winter Consort, a collaborative work that includes voices of wolf, whale and harp seals. Director of the Chorale, Dr. Gerald Kreitzer calls it a very timeless piece. Written in the ’80’s it incorporates “Popish, New Age and Jazzy sounds that are still stylistically pertinent today”. The Mass embraces exciting rhythms and lyrical melodies from Brazil, Cuba, Africa and American gospel traditions.
The performance will feature Soloists Lynne Rothrock and Tracy Stafford, a Jazz Ensemble, keyboards, percussion, recorded voices and the mixed voices of the Chorale.
Where: Sinclair Auditorium, Coe College.
When: 2:30 P.M. Sunday, May 15
Tickets: Students free; $15 at crchorale.org and $20 at the door.
