Event Description

How did our ancestors thrive in the Midwest on seemingly so little available food? During this series, you will learn how to walk into any Midwest landscape and confidently find edible berries, nuts, greens and mushrooms.

Recipes, informational handouts and book recommendations will be provided during each class.

Classes in this series happen Wednesdays at 6:00 pm.

  • May 18: Meet New Edible Friends - Let's make finding wild food easier.
  • Jun 29: Early Summer Forage - Practice finding yummy greens and berries through playful activities.
  • Aug 3: Forage for Primitive Fire - Fire-making is a fundamental survival skill that will boost your confidence and increase your enjoyment when hiking and camping.
  • Aug 24: Mushroom Foraging 101 - Learn to safely and enjoyably forage for mushrooms, including the best conditions for foraging and how to identify mushrooms.

You are invited no matter your level of outdoor experience. All are welcome.

Please contact us if mobility accommodations may be needed—we will cover quite a bit of ground during the classes.

Yummy snacks generously provided by New Pioneer Co-op.
