Event Description
The National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library (NCSML) is pleased to present “Righting a Wrong Scholars Panel” at 7 p.m. on August 25 in the WFLA Heritage Hall (1400 Inspiration Place SW, Cedar Rapids), free and open to the public, with a reception to follow. To coincide with Smithsonian exhibit Righting a Wrong: Japanese Americans and World War II, on display now through October 2, NCSML will assemble a panel of scholars and professionals to discuss the role of Japanese immigrants in American society. Elizabeth Lawrence, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of History at Augustana College; David Nordmann, Ph.D., Associate Professor of History at Coe College; and Yer L. Vang, JD, Director of Immigration Legal Services at Catholic Charities will present the significance of Japanese American military service in WWII, Japanese incarceration 1942-1946, and lingering issues of anti-Asian racism, housing inequality, and anti-immigrant sentiment.
