The opioid epidemic has claimed thousands of lives in the U.S. This training explores what opioids are how they work, and also explains how to identify an opioid poisoning/overdose and respond with naloxone, the life-saving medication that can reverse an overdose. Participants in the training may sign up to receive a free naloxone kit via mail. This training is designed for all community members, but may be of particular importance if you or a loved one have been prescribed an opioid medication, or are otherwise at elevated risk of experiencing or witnessing an opioid overdose. Carrie Hough, PhD, MPH is a Prevention Specialist at Community & Family Resources in Iowa.
