Event Description

Join Cedar Amateur Astronomers at the Eastern Iowa Observatory and Learning Center for a free public night on April 8 at 8 p.m. Brent Studer of Kirkwood Community College will present "The Great American Eclipses of 2023 and 2024."

Exactly one year from the presentation, on April 8, 2024, North America will experience one of nature’s most awe-inspiring events: a total solar eclipse. On October 14 of this year the United States and a small portion of Mexico and the Caribbean will experience an annular eclipse of the Sun. Learn about eclipses—how they occur, are related to each other, and how to enjoy these extraordinary spectacles.

After the presentation, feel free to tour the facility, visit our exhibits and displays, and talk to our many knowledgeable members. Weather permitting volunteer members will be operating several of our large telescopes to view planets and other objects in our night sky.
