The New Horizons Band Program is specifically designed for adults who want to learn to play a musical instrument or rediscover their love for playing music. The program was founded in 1991 by Dr. Roy Ernst, a professor of music education at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. The New Horizons Band Program is based on the belief that everyone, regardless of age or musical experience, can learn to play a musical instrument. It provides a supportive, non-competitive environment for adults to learn and play music together. Open to anyone over the age of 50, regardless of musical experience, the program typically consists of group lessons, rehearsals, and performances. Participants can choose from a variety of instruments, including woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings. It also offers classes on music theory and history, opportunities for socializing and community engagement. Fee: $45; pay Iowa City New Horizons Band. Email Steve at steveandbarb@tds.net to enroll or for more information.
