Event Description

Join Backyard Abundance, certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide Emelia Sautter, and Iowa City Yogini Mandy Dickerson for a restorative evening connecting with nature at Hickory Hill. Give yourself this time to slow down, become more present with self, and immerse in the vibrance of Summer.


Forest Therapy is a guided immersion in natural environments that promotes the well-being of people and the land. Research shows these numerous therapeutic benefits:


• Reduces stress, anxiety, depression, anger and pain.

• Improves cognitive functioning, sleep, mood and creativity

• Boosts the immune system, regulates blood pressure, improves relationships and increases feelings of gratitude.


Yoga is a method for tuning in to how our bodies experience and direct flows of energy. This long-standing and widely accepted wellness practice offers a path to:

• longer, rhythmic breath

• release of accumulated physical and mental/emotional tensions that drive stress

• boosted longevity via safe levels of physical and mental challenge.


THINGS TO BRING

  • Water bottle
  • Good shoes for being outdoors
  • Walking or hiking pole
  • Yoga mat or towel
  • Insect repellant
  • Anything else that might help you feel comfortable being outdoors.

DESIRED DRESS CODE

Dress for the weather and for being OUTDOORS for 2 hours!

If it is wet or rainy wear clothing to keep you warm and dry.


REGISTRATION

Sliding scale fee: $25 - $5, based upon your access to resources.


Backyard Abundance members receive a 10% discount.

EDUCATORS


Mandy Dickerson is a certified yoga and meditation teacher, an herbalist, and the owner of Plantchanters Garden. She enjoys sharing practices that enhance relationships with our ecosystem partners, plant buddies in particular.


Emelia Sautter is a certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide. She is the foundress of Good Medicine, Nature and Forest Therapy Practice in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

COVID-19

The event is held outside. Masks are optional. We will try to maintain 6' distancing.
