Friday the 13th seems like an appropriate night for rap-rocking Hollywood Undead to rise up and launch Club 5 at the U.S. Cellular Center, a new arena concert configuration in the downtown Cedar Rapids arena.

Club 5 is a fully-equipped concert space that can accommodate 2,000 people. The venue features a general admission setup with standing room on the arena floor in front of an elevated stage. Tickets are available through the U.S. Cellular Center Box Office.

The concept was developed as a way to present concerts in a unique way in the Corridor.

“Using curtains and other methods to reduce the size of the arena down to an intimate club feel, we can now start attracting a lot of smaller bands that might have passed Cedar Rapids by in the past in favor of the established clubs in Des Moines,” Michael Silva, executive director for VenuWorks of Cedar Rapids, said in a news release. “Cedar Rapids is already a vibrant music community, and we believe this new initiative will be a natural extension of what we are already doing to bring in a greater variety of music acts.”

The name “Club 5” pays homage to the former Five Seasons Center, which was renovated and named the U.S. Cellular Center following the flood of 2008. The Five Seasons Center played an integral role in Eastern Iowa’s arts and entertainment scene, bringing in superstar acts since 1979.

Christening Club 5 is Hollywood Undead, rap rockers from Los Angeles. Each band member uses a pseudonym and wears a mask, most of which are based on the common hockey goaltender design. The current lineup features Charlie Scene, Danny, Funny Man, J-Dog and Johnny 3 Tears.

Formed in 2005, the band released its debut album, “Swan Songs,” in 2008, followed by the live CD/DVD, “Desperate Measures,” in 2009, and a second studio album, “American Tragedy,” in 2011. Their third studio album, “Notes from the Underground,” was released in 2013, followed by “Day of the Dead” in 2015 and “Five” (or “V”) is due out Oct. 27. The first single from the album — “California Dreaming” — debuted July 24.

Opening band is Butcher Babies, heavy metal rockers also from Los Angeles. Frontwomen Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey, guitarist Henry Flury (Amen), bassist Jason Klein and drummer Chase Brickenden (Scars of Tomorrow) make up the band. Their debut album, “Goliath,” was released in 2013. It sold 3,300 copies in the U.S. during its first week and charted at No. 3 on the Billboard Heatseeker chart and No. 112 on the Billboard 200.

Next up in the Club 5 space is 311 on Oct. 18, with opening act Tropidelic. Future performances will be announced in the coming weeks.
