Event Description

A local family relative, Mary C. Rogers, has donated a photo of Frank Lloyd Wright father.  The studio card is stamped Hawkeye Studio Marion, Iowa ca.1890.  Many museums are celebrating the sesquicentennial anniversary of Wright's birth; June 8, 1867, so it is with pride and no little surprise to discover Marion and perhaps even our old Methodist church-building has a connection to the great architect!

Wright's father; William Carey Wright (1825-1904), was an itinerant Methodist minister who preached at various locations in eastern Iowa between Belle Plaine, McGregor and Washington in the 19th century.  Pastor Wright was a self-taught composer and a music teacher.

Rogers also donated a CD of Wright's musical compositions recently recorded and produced by David Patterson, a 19th century music expert.  We'll be playing the music and have the photo on display in the lobby the rest of the year to join in the Frank Lloyd Wright #150 celebration.

We are delighted she has donated the photo and music CD and shared this family history with us.
