Event Description

Please join the University Club at their February luncheon on Tuesday, February 13th. Social time 11:30 and Luncheon is @ 12:00 Noon, at the I University Club (formerly the University Athletic Club. The program will be “Celebrating Women from Past to Present”
Presented by:  Portia Byrd, University Club member. With this program, we will be celebrating both Black History month and celebrating women who have made a difference. Portia Byrd, a University Club member since 2007, will relate how those women have made an impact not just in her life but in the lives of others as well. 

Portia received her Master’s in Library Science at Columbia University in New York. She spent most of her life on the East coast as a public and university librarian being known in Greenwich, Connecticut as the “Story Lady”. Portia has received the Distinguished Service Award presented by the United Nations, and is listed in the 1996 Girl Scouts’ 10 Women book along with women such as Helen Gurley Brown, Barbara Bush, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Phyllis Diller Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Billie Jean King Diane Sawyer and Oprah Winfrey. She has also marched in Washington, D.C with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, in 1963, and again in 1983
