NewBo City Market's two newest anchor merchants - Butter Me Up! and Sweetopia - will open for business on April 3.

Butter Me Up! sells all natural nut butters made from honey roasted peanuts, almonds, cashews, and hazelnuts in a variety of flavors. Owner Tracy Norman has sold her butters at the market as a guest vendor.

Sweetopia has made chocolates - caramels, truffles, creams, nut clusters, cake bites and other assorted chocolates - in Cedar Rapids for several years at its store at 3260 Southgate Place SW. Owner Craig Flickinger, who took over the business earlier this year, says the market location will replace the previous store. He will be moving his entire production to the market and adding new products.

These additions to the market, plus the opening of Saucy Focaccia - a sandwich shop - on March 15, fill the three merchant spots vacated earlier this year by Soul Food, Russian Delights and the duo of The Chill and Cedar Rapids Popcorn.

The market - located at the crossroads of 12th Avenue and Third Street SE in New Bohemia - is also responding to customer demand by adding opening on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting April 3.

"We welcomed more than 230,000 guests into the Market during our first year of operation," says Kristie Wetjen, executive director at NewBo. "When that many people come to you and ask for the Market to open its doors on Fridays, you listen. Additionally, the small businesses that call the Market home as part of our business incubator program helped create the demand for an additional day. The businesses here have grown in strides and are ready to expand on that growth in the new year."

Beginning April 3, the market will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. Outdoor weekend market hours start in May.
